Mini-Update [17 Aug 2007|02:58pm]
And Thus...the end of the summer is here.

Okay, not quite, but me leaving for Wilkes signals it's end.  And since I'm leaving tomorrow morning.... it's coming.  And, to top it all off, Wilkes is run by fools who think they are kings, so I can't actually LIVE in my building, just move stuff in.  It's great, no really, it is.  So, if anyone wants to get at me, call the cell.

Oh my...a Summer Update [22 Jul 2007|10:51am]
[ mood | chipper ]

So here's, what, the second update of the summer?  Something like that.

Not much has been going on, honestly.  I Passed my Ancient Greek and Roman History class (A+, in case you're wondering), started a job (Huzzah for being paid under the table), started my new Ethics class (Done in a week and have a B+), and Wilkes Classes Start in a little over 5 weeks.  Crazy stuff.

Biggest news?  GREs.  For anyone who talked to me for the past week and a half, my favourite phrase was "I suck/fail at life."  I am pleased to announce that in fact, I do NOT suck at life - just verbal portions of standardized tests.  Final results were a 510 in Verbal, and a 690 (!!) in Math.  For a nice total of 1200/1600.  YAY!  My essays are still being graded, but I think I did well in them, too.

So, the rest of the summer includes preping for the return from school, working, Going to Wrap Tour, going to see the Goo Goo Dolls (tonight, actually), and generally enjoying life.  Until I have to take the GRE Subject tests.  Oh well....work's never done...

GAAHHHHHH [03 Jun 2007|06:39pm]
[ mood | pissed off ]

(&!@%*(^!@%##$^^*^*()_$%^!!!!!!

Okay, when someone asks "Are there any dates/times I need to know about?" and the answer given is "Nope," the phrase "You know, ACTIVITY X is that night around that time, you know" is NOT a suitable answer when plans which are laid out are told to you.

GAAAHHHHHH!!!

My fucking mother.

Such. A. Geek. [27 May 2007|04:30pm]
[ mood | geeky ]

So I caved in and bought Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.  Though Pearl was actually for Tommy as a Graduation gift.  Either way, they've been eating our souls.  Damn addictive game.

It's the first Pokemon game I've picked up in SEVEN years - Gold and Silver versions were the last games Tom and I played, and that was on the old Gameboy Colour.  Wow, talk about a blast from the past...

Dear Wilkes University:

Thank you.  For this one time for as long as I can remember, you actually made a problem easier than I was expecting.  Don't worry, I won't expect you to do it again any time in the near future.

Dear URI:

Thank you, for having another class I could register for.  However, I still believe that you should have telepathy to warn student about canceled classes, rather than a shoddy email system.

Grades came in! [15 May 2007|11:27am]
[ mood | chipper ]

I think this is the most pleased I have been with my grades in almost 2 years.  Damn, that is Depressing.  Here's the Jist:

Cellular and Molecular Biology: 3.0 - I wanted a 3.5, but oh well.  3 is still pretty damn good.
Plant Diversity: 3.0 - Damn.  But that's what happens when you get a 66 on a test.  Ruined my chance to get a 3.5.
Professional Prep Techniques: 4.0 - I <3 Dr. W. Biggers.  No, seriously.  The man is amazing.  Too bad it was just a 2 credit course.  Coulda helped more if it were a 3 credit o.o;;
Calculus II: 2.0 - LOLZ.  Yea, like I wasn't expecting that.
Philosophy: 3.5.  Holy shit, I WASN'T expecting that.  Seriously, I thought I was barely getting a 3.0; the guy really didn't like my writing assignments.  Guess my quizzes helped here...

Anyway.

GPA for the semester: 2.97 - Slowly going up from Sophomore year.
Total GPA?  3.03!!!  Huzzah!  Grad schools won't look at me QUITE as funny now!  :-D

Short little Update. Amazing, I know [11 May 2007|11:15pm]
[ mood | cheerful ]

So, here I am, sitting in my room at home, 300 miles away from Wilkes.  And DAMN does it feel good.  However, it also means that the odds of this getting updated at all in the next 3 months is pretty much nil.  Not that it gets much use anyway.  So you are correct Steve-O, we really don't use lj any more =P

Anyway, drive went surprisingly well, especially since I was expecting it to be much worse, because it had been a while since I had a good drive by my self.  I've grown used to at least one person's presence in the car by this point.  Got home, started to unpack, and pretty much did that for the most of today.  I registered for classes at URI, as well.  An Intro to Art History course and an Ethics Theory course first and second session, respectively.  Should be interesting.  I'm really just looking for the credits, though - so my over riding philosophy is 2-oh and go.  Wilkes is just going to take the credits anyway.  So that's the jist, classes this summer, some minal work unless I find a job at URI or freelancing landscaping stuff, GRE's and grad school prep.  Should prove an interesting summer...

*GASP* a REAL post! [28 Apr 2007|02:07pm]
[ mood | busy ]

So, I'm doing work, but my printer take 20 thousand hours to print so in the down time...

Since I've gotten back from Easter Break things have been hectic.  Project after project after project, after test after test.  With the latter portion not going so well.  Seriously, in all my recent tests, I have failed to perform.  Suffice to say, I was/am not happy at this.  But it's the end of the semester and there's only so much you can do - no use getting hung up on things, better off just kicking the final's ass.

Otherwise, everything academic seems to be going okay.  I'm currently working on my Professional Prep poster revisions - read:  ripping half of my poster apart to please the prof.  I finished my CV and cover letter - both of which make me feel stupid and unaccomplished.  For what I was attempting to do (The faux objective was to get a job as clinical microbiologist), I wouldn't touch me with a 10 foot pole - there are far better people out there for a job like that.  Major depression ensues.  Oh well.  My Labs for Cell/Molec are done - finished with my 10 page Formal Lab Report I handed in Friday afternoon.

So, what I have left for major projects/things:

  • Explication for Philosophy on Hume, which we don't actually HAVE yet
  • Review Paper for Professional Prep Final Draft, which we ALSO do not have yet - the guy still has the RD's.  He wants to hand them back the day before the reading day for finals.  Joy.
  • Calc Make up Exam to make up for that 59 I got mid semester (in all fairness, the class average was a 55)
  • Cell/Molec QUIZ.  It's the second to last class - seriously, WTF.
  • Plant Collection for Plant Diversity
  • 8-12 minute Podcast for Plant Diversity on Rosaceae (Rose Family - Ooo, Pretty flowers.  Ugh.)
All of this, plus final studies and packing in the span of a week and a half.  Not good.

On the plus side: I'm going to be a TA next year for a work study bit, so I'll get ~ 240 a month, which will help with groceries and boozahol (of course, as soon as I turn 21), as well as gas and general spending money.  I'll be working about 40 hours a month - not a lot, but enough.  Summer courses are gonna drain my bank account, too, so this will help fill it back up a bit.

In short:  Huzzah for money, Boo for large assignments due in the last week, Huzzah for Summer, Boo for summer classes, Huzzah for finally getting my life on track.

EDIT:  Oh, some other things I forgot to throw in.  Disaronno, orange juice, and Sweet and sour mixer makes an amazing drink.  I finally found someone to play chess with here at Wilkes.  So me and my friend Tim had an hour or so long game of chess, followed by an asian variant of it, and have also decided to buy a shogi board so we can learn how to play it next year, since he'll be living right below me in the Towers, pretty much.  And finally, the best exchange between an EB staff member and a customer:

Customer: "So, do you guys have any Wii's around?"
EB: "Nope.  We never have any Wii's around long enough."
Customer: "Oh.  Uh, do you happen to have any PS3s?"
EB: "Oh YES.  We have PLENTY of those lying around here..."

Summer Courses [14 Apr 2007|12:51pm]
[ mood | calm ]

Okay, time for the URI peeps out there in lj-land to pipe up and give me a hand.

Due to forces out of my hand (Read:  Fucking Pharmacy Department), I need to take some summer courses to make up two (Count them, TWO) credits so I can graduate on time.  My plan is to take 6 credits this summer so I have extra credits if I blow at Biochemistry this coming Fall semester, so I don't fall behind.  So far, I'm thinking of taking an English or Philosophy course.  Here's what I have right now:

Philosophy 212: Ethics with Peterson Jr.  Summer session 2.  Equal to Wilkes'  Philosophy 110: Ethical Theory.  At URI main Campus.
French (FRN) 101: Intro to French with Morello.  Summer Session 1.  Equal to Wilkes' - lo and behold - French (FR) 101.  At URI main Campus.

That's all I can really find / make heads or tails from the URI website.  So, advise away, will ya?

Book Meme [29 Mar 2007|03:32pm]

Sorta tagged by [info]elsolylaluna

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 23.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next three sentences in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.
6. Tag five other people to do the same.

Two books were next to me, stacked on top of one another. Thus, they were both *roughly* the same distance away.  So you get both:

Her acedem's robes did not manage to conceal the lush curves of her breasts, and the southern silks they were made from clung to her hips and hinted at the outlines of her thighs as she walked across the courtyard.  Max turned to face her and gave her a gallant little bow.  "Good morning, Celine." ~ Academ's Fury by Jim Butcher

And

"With two such men as yourself and Lestrande upon the ground, there will to be much for a third party to find out," he said.  Gregson rubbed his hands in a self-satisfied way.  "I think we have done all that can be done," he answered; "it's a queer case, though, and I knew your taste for such things." ~ A Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

I tag.... whoever

[ mood | chipper ]

It never ceases to amaze me how things can be blow out of proportion, especially when it's the unknown.

It is official, Andrew is moving out next semester and feels no ill will towards me or Adam (okay, a little towards Adam, but mainly because Adam bitches at the wrong time to the wrong people.  What goes around comes around and all that jazz).  Anyway, all he asked was that we help move stuff out since we did use it this year, which I have no problem with.  So, starting next semester Kevin (last year roommate Kevin, not 2 year ago roommate Kevin) will move in.  Huzzahs Abound!

Charles! Nooooo!! [05 Feb 2007|12:25pm]
[ mood | hyper ]

First and Foremost: http://www.widelec.org/stuff/koty2/koty_33.jpg

I love the things my brother sends me.  They amuse me greatly.  And it shows how geeky we both are.

Secondly:

Well, apparently my last quiz entry was a bunch of botched html text.  Oh well.  It just stated that I was a heretic, fishermen, and war general in my past lives.  I thought it humourous.

Moving on.  It is cold.  Freaking cold.  No day this next week do the weather people think it will get above 30.  That sucks.  And no snow to speak of.  Double suckage.  Maybe we'll have a delay due to TOTAL FREEZING EFFECT ON THE HUMAN BODY.  Seriously.   I just walked ~5 blocks, and feel like I almost got frost bite.  Feelings is now just returning to my fingers 20 minutes later (hence my frequent use of the backspace button during this entry).

In other news, I have a speech to give in another hour and a half, and I'm only half ready.  I need to get some organizing for it done before I go.  It's on plant Websites.  Exciting, no?  20 minutes on four websites.  Joy.  Not to mention 2 tests this week, a paper on a reading I haven't done, a lab to hand in which is only partially understood, a lab to do which I haven't even read, a poster topic to choose for my Professional Prep Tech class, along with whatever work they throw at me this week.  Plus the sub-freezing temperatures.  This entry is very Stream of Conscience-y.  Therefore I will end this, to go finish my speech.  Or, well, begin it really.  Oh well.

Oh, and I get SOUP tonight.  Stef's coming over to make soup.  YAY for a working kitchen/stove/food-makers! :-D
